Carnaby escorts in W1F, for the courtyards behind Regent Street
Carnaby is the western half of Soho with better lighting. Eleven pedestrian streets sit between Regent Street and Wardour Street, hung with an arch at one end and strings of lights overhead, and the whole quarter is closed to cars, which gives the evenings a slower walk than anywhere else in W1F. Kingly Court stacks three tiers of small dining rooms around an open yard. Newburgh Street and Foubert's Place keep the boutiques, and Liberty stands at the corner in black and white timber with its clock out over the traffic.
By day it belongs to shoppers. By eight it belongs to whoever booked a table, and by eleven it is quiet enough to hear your own footsteps on the way back to the hotel. This page covers the hotels, the stations, the timings and the ladies who reach W1F fastest. Figures are published on the rates page.

Streets with no traffic in them
The pleasure of Carnaby is that nothing is coming. Every street is paved for walking, so a drink at seven turns into a wander without anybody deciding to make it one. Kingly Court is the centre of that: a courtyard of small rooms, terraces on every level and a retractable roof for the months when London pretends otherwise. Kingly Street behind it keeps a blues bar in a basement where the band plays close enough to touch.
Two doors define the evening at either end of the scale. Bob Bob Ricard on Upper James Street puts a button on every booth marked for champagne, in blue and gold rooms built to be photographed. Two streets away a counter with ten stools will feed you better for a third of the money. A lady who knows the quarter will ask which of the two evenings you are in the mood for before she suggests anything.
Four addresses in walking distance
The Courthouse Hotel on Great Marlborough Street is the most characterful stay in W1F, built into a former magistrates' court with the cells turned into a bar. Broadwick Soho, two minutes east, is the newest house in the postcode, colourful and small, with a rooftop that looks over the lanterns. Karma Sanctum Soho on Warwick Street keeps a roof terrace and a reputation for late checkouts. Hotel Café Royal is five minutes south on the Quadrant, and The Soho Hotel is a few streets east in Richmond Mews.
Named as landmarks and nothing more. No hotel in Carnaby has an arrangement with the house, and none is needed, because a lady arrives as your guest and walks to the lift like any other visitor. Serviced flats around Golden Square and Beak Street are visited on identical terms.
Three minutes from Oxford Circus
Oxford Circus is about 3 minutes north on foot, with the Bakerloo, Central and Victoria lines meeting underneath it. Piccadilly Circus is roughly 6 minutes south down Regent Street or through Golden Square, on the Bakerloo and Piccadilly lines. Both are simple walks and neither involves crossing anything difficult.
Because the streets are pedestrian, cabs stop on Beak Street, Great Marlborough Street or the Regent Street side, and the last minute is always on foot. That suits the hour. Tell the host which entrance your hotel uses and she will be there rather than circling a block she cannot drive down.
From message to the knock
One message carries everything the door needs: a name from the guest list or a description of the evening, the hour it should start, how long it should run, and where you are staying. A host answers within 10 to 15 minutes at any time of the day or night.
Before she leaves, the host checks your full name, the hotel and the room number once over WhatsApp or Telegram, and that is the end of the questions. Twenty five percent by bank transfer holds a standard booking in a hotel or residence, fifty percent covers overnights, events and travel with the travel share of that half non refundable, and the balance is paid quietly on arrival in cash or by transfer. Travel across Zones 1 and 2 is already inside the fee.
From confirmation she is usually at the door inside the hour. Saturday evenings are the busiest in this postcode, when the shops empty into the bars, so an afternoon message is the surest way to keep the name you chose. Three hours notice cancels without charge, inside two hours half the booking stands, and a quarter of an hour of grace is allowed at the door.
An evening in the courtyards
19:00, a terrace table on the top tier of Kingly Court with the roof open and the yard filling below. 20:30, down to one of the small rooms for dinner, the kind with eight tables and a menu on one page. 22:00, ten minutes in the basement on Kingly Street if the band is worth it, or a blue and gold booth on Upper James Street if the night wants a flourish. 23:15, the short walk back past the shuttered arch to your hotel.
Three hours at £700 fits that comfortably, dinner included. Ninety minutes at £400 covers a drink and an hour upstairs, two hours at £500 adds a proper table, and the four hour dinner date at £900 is the one that starts on the terrace and ends with the lights going off over Carnaby Street.
Who is nearest to W1F
The postcode is shared with Soho, so the three ladies who live there are the quickest to any Carnaby address. Molly is the natural choice for a late one, cocktails and a basement with a sound system. Tiffany likes a courtyard, a glass of champagne and good lighting, all of which Kingly Court obliges with. Jasmin starts after nine and knows every bartender between here and Chinatown.
From Marylebone, ten minutes north, Rosa hunts for records and small galleries and is easy company on an early evening, while Liana suits a calm midweek table. Everyone else on the list comes to W1F on the same terms.
Around the arch
East through Berwick Street the rest of Soho begins, and the lanterns of Chinatown are ten minutes beyond it. South down Regent Street is Piccadilly Circus, north is Oxford Circus and the shops. Cross Oxford Street and the dining rooms of Fitzrovia start within two minutes. The quarter as a whole sits on the West End page.
Carnaby, asked at the door
Short, plain answers. Anything else, the host takes by message at any hour.
Yes. The Courthouse Hotel, Broadwick Soho and Karma Sanctum Soho are all inside W1F, and after the host confirms she is usually at the door inside the hour. Saturdays fill early, so message in the afternoon if you can.
The Courthouse Hotel on Great Marlborough Street, Broadwick Soho, Karma Sanctum Soho on Warwick Street, with Hotel Café Royal and The Soho Hotel a few minutes away. They are buildings we arrive at, never partners.
Gladly, and it is the most natural opening in the quarter. Name the terrace or the room when you book and she will be at the table at the agreed minute, with the booking beginning then rather than at the hotel.
About 3 minutes on foot, which makes this one of the easiest addresses in W1 to reach. Oxford Circus has its own page, and the same terms apply on both sides of the walk.
One hour, from £250, and nothing shorter is offered. Ninety minutes at £400 is the most requested here, and travel inside Zones 1 and 2 is already counted, so a W1F address carries no fare.
