Her photographs, and the standard they are held to

The one thing a guest cannot check from a screen is whether the woman in the picture is the woman who arrives. It is also the thing this trade is worst at. So here is the whole procedure, written down, and the door will be held to it.

Every portrait on the guest list belongs to a lady who was sitting in front of a host when it was approved, whether she lives in Soho or up in Fitzrovia.

§ 01

Checked in person, before the card exists

No lady is listed from photographs sent in. She comes in, her identity document is examined, her age is confirmed as over eighteen, and her pictures are set beside her face in daylight. If a picture flatters beyond what the room shows, it does not go on the card. The card is written afterwards, never before.

§ 02

The kind of photography used

Fashion and lifestyle portraits, the sort you would see in a style magazine: dressed, composed, nothing explicit, nothing that could not be open on a screen in a hotel bar. There is no nudity anywhere on this site and there never will be, which is a decision about what kind of house this is rather than a legal calculation.

§ 03

Edits allowed, edits refused

Allowed: exposure, white balance, contrast, a crop, and the removal of a passing blemish that will be gone in a week. Refused: reshaping a body, slimming a waist, altering a face, changing an apparent age, swapping a background for somewhere she has never been, and any filter that would make her unrecognisable across a lobby. A picture that needs the second list is simply retaken.

§ 04

Rechecks, and how current is current

Pictures are reviewed when a lady changes her hair, her colour or her look, and at least seasonally regardless. A set that has drifted from the woman is replaced rather than explained away. Ask the host when a particular set was last confirmed and you will get the month, not a reassurance.

§ 05

If the knock does not match the card

Then you owe nothing. Say so at the door, let her leave, and tell the host: the booking is cancelled with no fee and the deposit comes back in full. It has not happened here, and the procedure exists precisely so that the promise costs us something if it ever does. Nobody should be arguing on a corridor in W1D at midnight.

§ 06

Her pictures, her decision

A lady chooses which portraits are published and may have any of them removed at any time, without giving a reason. Faces are never blurred here to imply something is hidden, and nothing is published without her written consent. The same consent covers her file, her bio and anything a guest later writes about her, as the terms record.

Asked at the door

Short, plain answers. Anything else, the host takes by message at any hour.

You can ask the host, and the honest answer is usually that the set on her card is the current one. Where something has changed since, the card is updated rather than a private photograph being sent around.

No. Every portrait on the list is a full one, published with her consent. A lady who would rather not be pictured openly is not listed here at all.

Never, not for a card, not for a neighbourhood page and not for a badge. Everything of a lady on this site is a lady on this list, photographed for this house.

Seen in person, then listed

Every portrait you browse was held against the woman herself. Book with that confidence.
