Nora's favourite booking is an arrival evening. You land, you check in, and at six she is in the lobby with a small bunch of ranunculus for the room and a plan. Then a glass of champagne, properly cold, in a bar she chose because its lighting flatters tired travellers.
She is lively without ever being overwhelming, telling stories about fabric fairs and flower sellers while you slowly remember what time zone you are in. Dinner is optional. Back at the hotel she puts the flowers in a water glass, slips off her sandals and makes the room feel like somewhere you actually live.
Because a hotel room without them looks like an office. One small bunch of ranunculus fixes that immediately, and it makes me happy too.
The cut of the jacket, honestly. Then the smile. The label comes last and is always the least interesting part.
